As a member of Feeding America, Second Harvest Community Food Bank works to nourish families, children, seniors, and neighborhoods throughout the region. The organization serves the following counties:

Missouri: Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, Dekalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Worth (Note: If you live in Linn, Putnam, or Sullivan County, please click here for information on the Food Bank covering your area.)

Kansas: Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Leavenworth

Following are some of the program highlights happening over the summer:

NO HUNGER SUMMER: Free Meals for Kids

Every weekday, kids across No Hunger Summer cafe sites receive a nutritious lunch (currently grab & go meals) in a positive, encouraging environment at no charge. With the help of volunteers and community organizations, we are able to continue to grow this program.

Why? Because summer should be a fun time and not a time for hunger.

At Second Harvest Community Food Bank, we know that summer break takes away the opportunity for kids to receive free or reduced-price lunches to have access to nutritious foods. The No Hunger Summer feeding program provides free lunches to children 18 and under five days a week during the summer.

FRESH MOBILE PANTRY: Produce and Protein for Anyone in Need

Every month Second Harvest Community Food Bank distributes fresh produce and lean protein at 26 locations within the organization’s 19 county service area. Each location runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and is open to the general public, so anyone that is in need can obtain food assistance.

Alongside the Fresh Mobile Pantry, Second Harvest also attempts to hold a varying number of ‘Pop–Up’ Mobiles each month. These locations are arranged based on data/need that Second Harvest has obtained through Feed America’s Map The Meal Gap information and through internal numbers based on distribution within each respective county.

GET INVOLVED!

Donors and volunteers are crucial to Second Harvest’s mission and vision. Without generous individuals being willing to donate both money and time, Second Harvest could not provide the necessary services to those in need within the community food bank’s 19-counties. YOU can make ALL the difference today, every $1 donated allows Second Harvest to provide 3 meals to individuals in need while every hour donated helps ensure everyone is getting their needs supplemented.
